M i n i m a l

When having to use your bedroom as your workspace, it's important to make the most of space yet find a way to keep it clear and minimal so inspiration can move around freely/for the sake of sanity. I spent the end of the summer doing this to my room - clearing it out and making the most of space. I donated lots of my unnecessary clothes to Op Shops, and old craft things to my younger sister, my friends helped me too which gave an insight into using the space/stacking things in ways I could not see on my own.. It's amazing how we all view the world from different angels, some think green is green and some think it's blue.

I'm so happy with the final result of my room, so thought I would share it as hopefully some lifestyle inspiration.

It is definitely better to consume less, and value high quality, this is the mentality that we need for the sake of our own happiness and the well-being of our world.

New Addiction

- v e g a n   s m o o t h i e -
- eat clean -

My new favourite smoothie recipe:

- organic rice milk
- frozen organic banana (whenever your bananas get too ripe, don't waste them, put them in the freezer and save them for super smoothies and/or baking!)
- small handful of frozen organic raspberries
- two heaped teaspoons of organic cocoa powder (put as much or as little as you like, two heaped ones makes it quite chocolate-rich)
- two to four organic cocoa beans (skin removed) for a nice crunchy texture

A really amazing Australian supplier of organic produce and grocies is Honest to Goodness
- they have a great online store that you can either choose to have your items delivered or pick up from their Alexandria showroom! *Buy products with some friends or family members, split the quantity and spilt the cost, it works out to be just as affordable as non-organic nasty products.

Flowers still on my Mind

In the Autumn Semester of third year (2010!) I wanted to translate flowers into my textiles and thought what better way, than to trap them between two layers of sheer fabric. I went about pressing flowers and arranging them with nylon thread in between silk organza and then some second hand polyester fabric found at reverse garbage. The result was really pretty, feminine, yet mysterious (of how flowers came to lay between fabric sheets and get stuck there).

I explored this technique in the beginning of my final year collection that is a 90% denim collection that looks to ways of exploring both feminine and masculine elements throughout it. Flowers are commonly associated with women and a representation of feminine.. so mixing delicate, pressed flowers with a tough, masculine weight of denim seemed like a good idea.

Being told it has been seen before and having floral swamping the fashion world right now it could be a smart move to leave this beauty behind even though it keeps playing on my mind... we'll see what the final decision will be!

Went the same colour as my denim vest when I came across this post on the MTV Style site! Thanks guys, and cheers to denim!

OK, it's edging toward the middle of summer and you're kiiinnddaa getting tired of sporting the same ol' hot weather get-ups by now, right? You just need ONE thing to throw on over your summery floral dress or tank and shorts ensemble to give it a fresh new look. Enter in: the denim vest. This standby has been around forever, and right now we are loving it in cool colored versions like a minty green or coral-y pink. We found three bloggers who sported it in THE coolest of ways, so let's check out their ensembles, shall we?
Anisa Young of Young and Seamless
Blogyoungandseamless.blogspot.comTwitter@yandseamless.
Anisa totally amped up her already-amazing outfit with a bright pink denim vest, and we LOVE that. She wore a black H&M sweater, PacSun tribal print shorts (need!), metallicASOS oxfords, and a bright emerald green bag. But, um, can we talk about that hair? Ombre perfection!
Sarah Elizabeth of Borrowed Jewel
Blogborrowedjewel.blogspot.com.
It's OK to be jealous of Sarah because we are too. We dig her vintage-y cool style and adoration for thrifting. Here she wears a crimson Levi's denim vest, white tank, vintage black cutoff Levi's shorts, studded wedges and black belt. To finish her look, she tied her hair up in a side-knotted bandana paired with a red pout.
Mayo Wo of Mellow Mayoness
Blogfashionsalade.com/mellowmayoness.
It's hard not to fall in love with Mayo's super girly style, which is displayed in its FULL glory in this ensemble. She wore a mint green Romwe vest as a shirt (smart!) paired with a layered pink and peach tutu. The best part, though, HAS to be the printed lion socks she wore with matching mint green ankle strap shoes. SO. AMAZING.

I'm still here!

I'm just in my last semester of my degree ...so life is unavoidably revolving around that. It's a big fabric, dye, fit, asking for favours, trying to be strong, attempting to multi-task, loving work, trying to deal with a new iron deficiency and wheat intolerance (almost cried about the wheat, but must admit it has forced me to cook some interesting food to compensate! I reckon I'll definitely kick this too once the stress of this final semester bounces... can't imagine life without pasta or salad baguettes!) B O M B !

...today I had a fun dye session with my friend and managed to dye white elastic into the most heavenly nude colour, I'll take a photo of it soon, it's too precious not to share, and just keeps making my heart jump for some odd reason! <3 Sarah

GUEST BLOGGER: THE CHOOK
Style Me Up, the London Way

When I think of London, I think of style, not necessarily stylish but style in its own right. From my experience, people are not afraid to dress as they please, with or without the influence of current trends.

– I have a lovely memory of walking into my cousin's room, where she was sitting chatting to a friend while wearing a pair of jeans, t-shirt, dress on top, a hand drawn mustache above her top lip and something draped around her head. When I walked in, there was no reaction of anything out-of-the-ordinary, everything carried on as though she were wearing a conventional style of dress and no mustache... until of course I could not contain my giggles of admiration anymore and dashed out to grab my camera, to document that lovely moment of self-confidence and self-expression that I saw through her. –

London either encourages this self-expression of style, or people are just born with it. Next evidence of my London-style theory is Lewis Grant, Australian model and unique soul. From what I picked up, London definitely influenced this young man's style, and to be quite frank on the streets of Sydney to dress the way that Lewis does, can only be done by someone with confidence, strength and the need to express themselves through style. Although there has been a lovely wave of people inventing their own style in Sydney, looking to history for style influence rather than current, mass market trends, it can become quite tough facing people from certain suburbs that are aggressive towards non-conventional dress styles.

I wish to always surround myself by unique souls, people who are true to themselves and know what they like, which comes in hand with a confidence to move away from the conventional side of the 'safe mass-produced world'.

RE:  Blogged Post
- E n e r g y -
I finally tried the lovely Brooke Vardi's recipe yesterday. I've had the choped nuts and dates sitting in a container for a week, because when I went to make them last time I remembered that our blender died on me last time I was making pumpkin soup. So, finally with a new hand held blender instead, I got onto the rest of Brooke's wonderful recipe.

The green colour from the spirulina made this treats be a bit off-putting at first, and I must admit it took me three of them to get used to the flavour; but now I am hooked. I even made my mum try one last night and she seemed pretty worried (once again because of the green alien colour!) and probably because I was sitting next to her giggling like crazy; but when she reached for a couple more it was obvious that she liked them!

I substituted the black sesame seeds on the outside with some more chia seeds, because sesame is bad for my blood type (I did however give in and put tahini in there, but put half a tablespoon less than Brooke's recipe). Also I added some dark chocolate chunks (any excuse to add some choc to a recipe) but it is definitely my favourite part, the crunching texturing of it along with its heavenly taste)

Also definitely check out the rest of Brooke's blog, it's filled with great ideas based on fashion, health (beauty tips too), travel and art; and she's such a lovely character with a beautiful energy about her.

Enjoy!
